CULTURAL RALLY 2019

The department of Chemistry, Darrang College participated in the College Week Cultural Rally of 2019 and was awarded consolation prize. The theme of the department was Sankari Kalakrishti, Vaishnav Culture and Tradition promoted by  Srimanta Sankerdeva. 

IYPT 2019

The Periodic Table of Chemical Elements is one of the greatest achievement in the field of science. Without the systematic classification of element discovered by by Dmitri Mendeleev in 1869 modern science cannot simply be imagined. 2019 is the 150th anniversary of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements and has therefore been proclaimed the "International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements (IYPT2019)" by the United Nations General Assembly and UNESCO.The initiative for IYPT2019 is supported by IUPAC in partnership with the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP), European Association for Chemical and Molecular Science (EuCheMS), the International Council for Science (ICSU), International Astronomical Union (IAU), and the International Union of History and Philosophy of Science and Technology (IUHPS).

The Department of Chemistry, Darrang College started the celebration of IYPT2019 by releasing a wall magazine ALCHEMICA on 9th February,2019 completely devoted to Mendeleev and his periodic table. It was released by Sanjib Chetry, HOD.

FUNDAMENTAL GLOSSARY OF CHEMISTRY ,CSTT

The Commission for Scientific & Technical Terminology(CSTT), Ministry of Education published the Trilingual Fundamental Glossary of Chemistry in 2018 in English-Hindi-Assamese. A team of 17 resource person from various Colleges and Universities of India compiled the glossary through 5 sessions from 2016-2018. The department of Chemistry, Darrang College takes the privilege to congratulate Dr Palashmoni Saikia for being selected as one of the resource person of the project and for his contribution in compiling the glossary. 

INVITED LECTURE ON CRYSTAL ENGINEERING

An invited talk was organised on Crystal Engineering on 18th March 2018. It was delivered by Dr Bipul Sarma, Assistant Profesor, Department of Chemical Sciences,Tezpur University. The students of the department participated in the talk and it was followed by a fruitful interaction with the young scientist.

 

POPULARISATION OF CHEMISTRY THROUGH NCSC

National Children's Science Congress(NCSC) is a platform for promoting science temperament among child scientist of the nation. The department of Chemistry,Darrang College used the platform of the  District Level NCSC of Sonitpur to popularise Chemistry and its research ideas among school children. Dr Palashmoni Saikia, faculty member of the Department conducted a series of such interaction programmes at Tezpur Govt. H.S.School, Rashtrabhasa H.School, St. Josephs Convent H.S. School and Jamuguri H.S. School in July  2018.
